What Is a Salesforce AppExchange Partner? Everything B2B Buyers Need to Know in 2026

A Salesforce AppExchange partner is not the same as a random Salesforce consultant. Here is what the certification actually means, which tiers exist, and how to use partner status as a buying signal.

Every Salesforce consultant claims to be "a partner." Only a fraction are actually certified Salesforce AppExchange consulting partners with formal accountability to Salesforce. Here is what the label really means, how to verify it, and why it should be a table-stakes filter when you buy Salesforce services.

The two categories of Salesforce partners

  1. Consulting Partners: firms that implement Salesforce for customers. Listed on the AppExchange under "Consulting Partners". This is the category most B2B buyers should care about.
  2. ISV Partners: firms that build and sell apps on the AppExchange (like DocuSign, Conga, Gong). Also formal partners, but a different relationship.

Digital Stratify is a certified consulting partner.

Partner tier levels (Consulting Partners)

Salesforce rates consulting partners on a public 5-tier scale, updated quarterly:

TierRequirementsTypical firm profile
RegisteredBasic AppExchange listing, at least one Salesforce certSmall boutique or freelance shop
RidgeGrowing certifications, customer success track recordMid-size specialist agency
CrestStrong CSAT, multi-cloud expertise, meaningful revenueEstablished mid-market to enterprise firm
SummitTop 5% globally, exceptional CSAT, deep multi-cloud, industry cloud specializationBig integrator or highly-focused enterprise firm
Global StrategicHighest tier, direct Salesforce co-investment relationshipDeloitte, Accenture, IBM, Capgemini, Cognizant, etc.

The rating is based on CSAT scores from customers, number of certifications, revenue contribution to Salesforce, and multi-cloud expertise. It is publicly visible on the AppExchange listing.

What partner status actually guarantees

  • At least one certified team member per practice.
  • Formal accountability to Salesforce for delivery quality.
  • Public CSAT ratings from real customers.
  • Access to Salesforce's partner enablement, roadmap and early releases.
  • The right to promote themselves as a partner (non-partners are prohibited).

What partner status does not guarantee

  • That your specific project will be staffed with senior people (always ask who's on your account).
  • That the tier is currently accurate (tiers can drift between quarterly refresh cycles).
  • That the firm's specialty matches your need (a Registered partner focused on RevOps may serve you better than a Summit generalist).
  • That pricing is competitive (higher tiers often carry premium rates).

Salesforce certifications: the individual credential

Separate from firm-level tiers, individual consultants hold Salesforce certifications. The most relevant for B2B buyers:

  • Salesforce Certified Administrator: baseline for any admin work.
  • Advanced Administrator: senior operational expertise.
  • Sales Cloud Consultant: business analyst for sales implementations.
  • Service Cloud Consultant: for service and support implementations.
  • Marketing Cloud Consultant: for marketing implementations.
  • Data Cloud Consultant: unified data and Agentforce grounding.
  • Application Architect, System Architect, Technical Architect: senior architecture roles.
  • Certified Technical Architect (CTA): the elite credential, held by roughly 400 people worldwide.

How to verify a Salesforce partner is real

  1. Search their name on the AppExchange Consulting Partners directory.
  2. Check their public CSAT score and customer count.
  3. Verify the individual consultants on your account on the Trailblazer directory.
  4. Ask for two references from customers of similar size and industry.
  5. Verify tier (Registered, Ridge, Crest, Summit, Global Strategic) — appears on the AppExchange listing.

Why partner status matters as a buying signal

Anyone can claim Salesforce expertise. Only official partners have the following non-trivial commitments:

  • They pay Salesforce for the partnership every year.
  • They pass an annual certification audit.
  • They accept public CSAT visibility.
  • They agree to Salesforce's delivery methodology and ethics rules.
  • They lose their partner status if CSAT drops below thresholds.

Non-partners have none of these accountability mechanisms.

The tier trap

A common buyer error: assuming higher tier = better fit. A Summit-tier firm may be optimized for enterprise programs at $500k+ minimum. A Ridge-tier boutique may be a better fit for a $60k RevOps + Salesforce engagement. Match the tier to the scope, not the ego.

Partner tiers vs Salesforce Innovation Awards

Salesforce also awards Innovation and Partner Innovation trophies. These are marketing signals more than delivery signals. Useful as tiebreakers, not primary filters.

How we position

Digital Stratify is a Salesforce AppExchange consulting partner focused on B2B mid-market Salesforce + RevOps engagements. We deliberately stay in the Ridge / Crest sweet spot rather than chase Summit, because our engagements are combined Salesforce + RevOps builds where senior specialist attention matters more than headcount volume. See our Salesforce implementation service.

If this sounds like your CRM, let's look at it together.

Thirty minutes, no deck, no pitch. You leave with a diagnosis either way.
